We recently had a chat with Beau Steyn from Tyson Properties Northern Suburbs about his career, the property industry and he gives some advice to buyers and sellers in the Northern Suburbs.
Give us some background about yourself.
I am Beau Steyn, 31 years old and attended school at Wynberg Boys High, I studied Sports Management and Biokinetics after school and I’ve been living in Durbanville for 11 years now which has grown to be my home and I absolutely love the dynamic of the area.
How did your career start in the real estate industry?
Previously working as an international Art Dealer around the world, you assist clients to design their homes with world class artwork and this involves a combination of attention to detail and listening to exactly what the client is looking for. Returning back to South Africa I wanted to continue this career, however, I wanted to go one step further and get involved with actual properties, so I decided to join a unique and well represented agency, so I joined Tyson.
How has the real estate industry changed since you started?
One of the main changes I have noticed is the age of actual home buyers. There is a larger pool of young South Africans taking advantage of the times we are in and buying larger homes – the type of home one would normally look for after owning two homes, in essence, jumping a few steps ahead in the “home owing career” and going big. Safety and security are also becoming more of a need as many single parents are looking for that security complex / estate home.
Why did you choose to join Tyson Properties?
Tyson is energetic, well represented, their brand is fantastic and when I first walked through the doors on day 1, I felt like family. The ethics and morals they encompass are top class and all of these matched the way I do life and business. They are all about the client and finding the perfect fit, and that was the perfect match for me, because that’s how I do property.
Tell us more about the area that you sell in.
The areas I specialize in are Vredekloof, Vredekloof Heights, Langeberg Ridge, Langeberg Glen, Langeberg Heights and Klein Bron. It`s all about the client and finding the perfect fit for them. This involves a combination of careful listening and top recommendations and extending the feeling of family that we share at Tyson over to the client.
What would you say are the pros and cons of a young real estate agent?
The benefits of being a young estate agent far out-weighs the, what one would call the “cons”. The different facets of life you get to experience with the wide variety of people you meet really assist you in helping every next client. The industry itself teaches you various ways of dealing with situations and definitely keeps you on your feet. Yes, like any other job you have to give up time, I would say in the real estate industry, you give up a little more but it`s well worth it.
What advice can you give to buyers and sellers in the area?
The most important advice I would give is choose an agency that fits you and your family and can relate to what you looking for. This is the foundation of a powerful relationship and will start you off on the right footing going into one of the most important purchases of your life. Be strict on your budget and you will find the home that will be the perfect fit.
