This week, we chat to Lilieth Adams who heads up the newly launched Tyson Properties Muizenberg team. Having lived in the Muizenberg area for over 20 years, she has seen it all. This eclectic suburb is an extremely popular family orientated destination, with visitors coming from all over to enjoy the laid-back ambience.

Why did you decide to join Tyson Properties?

During the last 12 years of my banking career, I was closely involved with the Home Loans Social Transformation team. During one of my many chats with Nick Pearson, I realized that we share a similar vision of changing the demographic imbalance in the real estate industry. With that in mind, I have taken on a fresh young team, with each intern coming from a disadvantaged background. My only prerequisites for them are that they are eager to learn, tenacious, and have a willingness to move out of their comfort zone!

Why is now a good time to buy in your area?
A couple of years ago, Muizenberg had major socio-economic problems – drugs, gangs, and rampant homelessness. This of course affected area perception and pricing. Then MID (Muizenberg Improvement District), SAPS, local businesses and the municipality formed an alliance, and a ‘clean up’ took place. These days Muizenberg is looking great – the beaches are clean, public spaces are beautifully maintained, and homeowners are taking care of their properties and verges. Covid19 has highlighted the opportunity for people to work from home and eclectic Muizenberg is once again an attractive suburb epitomizing the ideal beach-side area where work and play blend seamlessly into an easy and balanced lifestyle. I believe that Muizenberg is going against the current trend with property prices actually on the rise, however purchasers can still find a home offering great potential – and at good value for money.

Why do you love selling homes in your area?
I have lived in the Muizenberg area for over 20 years, and I have seen the good, the bad, and the ugly. It is a suburb that has always been a melting pot of people from all walks of life, irrespective of race, financial status and religion. An eclectic merging – from artists to accountants, a place where a welcoming neighbourly ambience permeates the whole suburb. Meeting interesting people and seeing many different homes has always been a passion of mine. Muizenberg affords me the opportunity to do both.

The main attraction is definitely Surfers Corner, with surfers flocking to the area at all times of the year. Plus, the ever-popular Muizenberg to St James catwalk is a sure winner for Sunday morning walks. If you’re tired of hanging around the beach, hidden gems of interest to visit include the eco-conscious Blue Bird market offering an array of food dishes and locally made crafts, historical building’s to explore – The Rhodes Cottage Museum and Het Posthuys (The post house), or you could enjoy high tea at Casa Labia. For nature lovers the Zandvlei Estuary Nature Reserve offers an array of local flora and fauna, perfect for nature walks, whilst winding mountain hikes challenges the more adventurous.
