We recently sat down with Jason Morris to chat to him about how he got into the industry, what he loves about the area he works in and he takes us through one of his favorite new listings in Vredehoek.
What made you get into the real estate industry?
While I was trying to pursue a rugby career, playing for Hamiltons at the time, I met my teammate and soon to be boss, Nick Pearson. We became friends and he soon told me about this incredible, forward-thinking real estate company that had a clear vision to be number one, and that he wanted me to join him.
He spoke about how we were going to raise the bar to new heights and change the way people think about real estate by providing the most professional and effective service, deliver the highest quality marketing, and employ passionate, qualified agents.
He outlined where the company would grow within the Western Cape, and how many years we were going to do it in, and he said it with conviction. I immediately knew this was something I wanted to be a part of.
Not only have we achieved the targets laid out, we’ve exceeded them, with 5 world-class offices opened within 5 years, and over 120 agents who all exude the Tyson beliefs.
It’s safe to say that I am very proud to be a part of the Tyson family.

How does working in the real estate industry coincide with your lifestyle?
I think my lifestyle and working in real estate go hand in hand. Firstly, I’m very fortunate to live in this lovely suburb I sell in, to be able to integrate into this vibrant community and meet new, interesting people every day.
I like that you are your own boss and what you put in is what you get out and that every day has new challenges to overcome. Of course, the flexibility is amazing, being able to take those much-needed breaks when need be. Most importantly, enjoying what I do only improves the quality of my lifestyle.

What do you love about the area you work in?
I think at the top of the list are the spectacular views – with the majestic Table Mountain on the one side and the vibrant city bowl on the other. It is also extremely central yet offers a haven from the hustle and bustle of the city.
Vredehoek is a suburb that has become very attractive for young professionals, and the majority of my clients are buying to live. The people are all super friendly, active and involved in the community. It’s a beautiful, peaceful neighborhood, and with the infamous Vredehoek Spar and amazing coffee shops and restaurants on your doorstep, you almost never have to leave!

What are some of the recent market trends in your area?
It is true that we have seen a downturn in the market since 2017, however sectional titles in Vredehoek and the surrounding suburbs of Oranjezicht, Gardens, and Tamboerskloof have not been affected as severely as the luxury end of the market. This is very much because of these areas still being affordable, extremely central yet disconnected from the bustling CBD itself.
These areas also often offer incredible views and/or back up onto the mountain and greenbelts and appeals to all walks of life. These factors have resulted with us having built a large database of qualified buyers and still achieving premium prices for our sellers.
